Each head teacher at Stone Prairie Montessori holds an AMI or
AMS diploma and is qualified to guide children using the Montessori Method to the standards of the Association
Montessori Internationale (AMI) or the American Montessori Society (AMS).
Suzannah Walter, Director/teacher, received a BA from Columbia College
in Chicago and holds an AMI diploma. She is also trained in Orton-Gillingham, a specialized, multi-sensory reading program. Suzannah taught at Near North Montessori School in Chicago for many years
and served on their Board of Education and curriculum committee. She is educated in writing and music and enhances the curriculum in this way.
Suzannah grew up on a farm in Grand Ridge, Illinois and now lives in Sandwich with her husband, Paul Tapp and their children, Julian,6,
and Christian, 2.

Melanie Scawinski, primary teacher, holds
a degree in behavioral studies with an emphasis on education and a Montessori primary (3-6) certification from AMS.
This is her fourth year as a Montessori directress. Melanie
was thrilled to discover the Montessori Method of teaching and loves the feeling of community that the environment
and curriculum provide. Melanie enjoys reading, sports and
cross stitching and lives in Cortland, Illinois with her husband, Derek.
