The child can only develop by means of experience in his environment. We call such experience "work."
Maria Montessori
The Primary Class
provides a prepared environment to meet the needs of the child
(ages 3-6) at each developmental stage. Children work individually and cooperatively with materials that engage their curiosity.
The children are given lessons using the materials and then are free to explore and observe. An emphasis is placed on
the process rather than the product of learning. The
aim is to develop a love of work and a joy of learning.
Practical Life includes taking care of self, of the
classroom environment, choosing a work and putting it away. Respect for others is emphasized. Grace and courtesy is an important
part of the Montessori curriculum.
The sensorial materials provide
a sequentially ordered progression of experiences designed to help the child develop muscular coordination and control. The
sensorial experiences exposes your child to a variety of colors, sounds, shapes, and textures.
Intellectual Development includes working with materials that introduce children to writing, math concepts, reading, geography, biology,
music and art. These manipulative activities lead the children form concrete to abstract learning.
